We woke up on Sunday morning pretty excited because we were attending the iheartradio music awards that afternoon.
We did some housekeeping jobs in the morning before we went and parked at the forum at about 1:30. Our tickets said that doors opened at 3:30 so we had a few hours to fill in.
Those few hours went pretty quickly once we, along with a lot of other people who had purchased their tickets from ticketmaster, realised that none of the security knew where we were meant to go. We spent a good hour walking from gate to gate being herded along like sheep. We eventually decided to go back to the van and wait to go back to the gates until closer to 3:30.
Fast foward a few hours and the drama is over, we finally got let in through one of the gates and were waiting out the arena for the doors to open.
We realised pretty quickly (why we were suprised I don't know, we are in America after all) just how commercial and played out for television these award shows really are. The people in the pit were bought in and organised like i have never seen before.
One of the crew spent a lot of time instructing them on exactly what to do throughout the show, even down to how they were supposed to clap.
I was most looking foward to the performances and they certainly didn't disappoint. Bieber seemed to lack enthusiasm during his performance but his vocals were on point which is what matters.
I learnt a few things during the performances, the first being that Jason Derulo can DANCE. The second being that Demi Lovato has a hell of a set of lungs on her, I admit that i was hugely suprised by just how amazing her voice is.
I spent a good amount of time watching Taylor Swift at her table during the night which was entertaining as she dances to every performance.
All in all it was an amazing night and I loved getting to see so many great performers in one night, as you never get that in NZ.
